Will we live the dream?

My dream of owning a place in Spain is coming true after ten years in the planning.......This is what's happening!

The Start of it all.......My Mam and Ebay!
Monday, January 21, 2013 @ 10:18 PM

I stayed in La Marina roughly ten years ago for a two week holiday, which then turned into an obsession with the surrounding areas and holidaying there for the next ten years.

We travelled all around the area and each year stayed in a different area, in different types of villas and apartments.  This turned out to be a great idea as we really did find the best place to buy (Both area and type of building!).

I have spent the last five ish years writing down all the information I thought I would need, reading everything I could about buying property and writing that down too!  I have so many estate agents on my favourites it was getting crazy. I trawled the net searching for that perfect property but to no avail.  So we just kept going on holiday.

I had a few places saved on my ebay which I kept updating when I found something else I liked the look of, but then I got distracted by work and deleted them all off and left it for about six months.

One day I went on ebay and saved in my watch list was this property in Torremendo which I thought Ian my partner had saved  in there, so I had a bit of a look at it but it wasn't for me.  I clicked on the link to the agents site and had a look at what was available and to my surprise there was an apartment in an area we liked and had stayed in before.

I had sold my Motorhome and the money was burning a hole in my pocket!

I rang the agent and talked about the property and what was expected and within a couple of hours I had arranged a flight to Spain to view the property.

I flew out the following week, 14th November, with my Mam and Dad as my partner couldn't come with me and I needed someone there to reassure me and make sure I wasn't letting my heart rule my head.

Well when we arrived it chucked it down for the entire time and we were told it was the worst weather they had had in ages ........

Haha Freya, you sound just like me except mine hasn't been quite so long coming! We hope to move permanently in June! I will probably start my own blog of developments from the last two and a half years soon but meanwhile I love blogs like this so please keep them coming! :)

Congratulations with the realizing your dream in Spain!!!
Is it in a closed area of La Marina?

What do you think, would you come for a stay without being accompanied by your partner, or Mum or Dad? I mean how is a criminality situation in the area?
Thanks.

Thank you for your comments - it really is great to read some feedback.

I have bought near Los Montesinos, in an area we have been many times.

I would absolutely have no hesitation in going there on my own. It feels like I have lived there for years.

The crime is like anywhere, if you are vigilant you should be okay, but if it's going to happen it's going to happen and there's nothing you can do to control it other than be as vigilant as you would be at home.

Well done Gerald - you brought the excitement of buying back to me all over again when I read you blog. I look forward to reading your future adventures!

Louise - I look forward to your blog!!

Can you really find properties through ebay? Do you have a special ebay country you go to?
Congratulations by the way - once you decide to do something you move FAST

Hi nikkers

I don't go to a special ebay country. I just search the UK site to see what's about - you tend to get more pictures on there to work out layouts of buildings etc.

I wouldn't buy off ebay as it's too big a purchase for me to risk that! It's just useful to check places out!

I had to move fast as there were two for sale on the urbanisation with £500 difference in cost and there were four people interested in one, but I didn't like where it was so I opted for the extra £500 for location and was the only one in the queue but didn't want to risk losing out!

And it's definitely been worth it! All of my research has definitely paid off and to boot I found a great solicitor who has been absolutely excellent to deal with and has done everything in plain English with me - A pretty stress free purchase!
