hi there

i would not recommend buying a bar!! There are many bars that are going to the wall and will sell their lease on very cheaply.

But remember that you will be competing with spaniards, who will have family helping them for free, will have access to resources unavailable to you (grannies garden stuff, cured hams, friends)

And if you wanted to attract a spanish audience you would need to speak excellent spanish

just like in the UK the paperwork and health and safety issues are horrific

and i suspect that spain is going to have an almighty crash leaving very little money in peoples, and this crash will affect the british banks so we brits will have sweet fa to spend

teaching english is the only thing i can think of that might get you enough income to live a simple life, and that would be best in a largeish village (no competition from language schools)

The price you would pay for a bar in malaga would buy you a large family home away from the coast

Am assuming that your spanish is ok (ish?)

Spain is full of unskilled men pretending to be builders and handymen, so even if you are competent it would take a while to establish yourself.

But the living costs are much lower here so if you can manage it - do it!

definitely not, bars are not doing well at this present time, you would waste your money for sure. A new bar opened up in a busy town area, fitted it all out and stayed open for two months and now they have locked up and gone!!!!! no customers came.... They went back to UK after losing all their cash, lots of stories similar to this one. Sorry to smash your dream.

Buying a bar in Spain is the fastest road to bankruptcy I know.
You can buy a lease for as little as 3000 euros but look
around and see how many of these bars are up for sale. There are a lot of former bar owners/retired publicans (including my wife and I) living here and I doubt that one of them would wish to own a bar here in the present climate.
