Xabi Alonso has responded to reports that Real Madrid have sent their executive director, Jose Angel Sanchez to Barcelona to accelerate negotiations with Liverpool for his signature. The Merseysiders were in Catalunya on Sunday to participate in Espanyol’s new stadium inauguration match, a clash where Alonso was featured as a late substitute.
Even though AS reported that the 27-year-old midfielder had refused to speak to anyone upon his arrival in Barcelona, after the friendly encounter, he was contacted by the Madrid-based daily to be informed of the events that are unfolding at the negotiation table.
And his response was: “Oh really? Well it’s good to know that Madrid and Liverpool are talking seriously now.
“I decided long ago to stay away from everything that is happening. My position in the matter has been very clear and everyone knows it.
“I am a professional and I am ready to accept whatever agreement is reached. I just hope that it is resolved soon, for better or for worse.”
It is also reported that Xabi did not follow the rest of the squad back to Liverpool after the friendly and decided to spend the day in Spain with his family.
