Michel Salgado, 33, has been on the books of Real Madrid since 1999, when he joined from Celta Vigo, and has made over 250 appearances for the Spanish giants. But, according to a report in Marca, Madrid feel that Salgado has completed a cycle at the Santiago Bernabeu, which, together with the fact that the squad is overpopulated, has led to his release.
The Spanish paper reports that Salgado received a call from the club's sporting director, Miguel Pardeza, on Monday, in which he was told not to report for training on Tuesday.
It is believed that Salgado wants to continue playing for three more years, with Real Zaragoza one of the many clubs interested in his services. Meanwhile, Marca suggests that Madrid will pay Salgado €3 million in compensation for the remaining year the right-back had on his contract with the Merengues. Real Madrid have yet to comment on this matter. Salgado has called a press conference for 12.00 (CET time) in the Spanish capital.
