Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has reportedly rejected a last minute offer to move to Manchester City, in favour of a transfer to French side AS Monaco.
As has been previously reported by Goal.com, the Iceland international has been in negotiations to join Monaco and is expected to complete his transfer shortly.
However, the Sunday Mirror reports that Manchester City attempted to hijack the deal and lure the striker to Eastlands.
The tabloid claims that Mark Hughes’ side left their approach too late, however, and a deal had already been agreed between Monaco and Gudjohnsen.
Of course, City already have a vast array of attacking talent at the club having signed Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez this summer.
The trio join Craig Bellamy, Benjani and Robinho on the books at Eastlands, meaning there is fierce competition for places up front for the Citizens.
Gudjohnson, meanwhile, looks set to turn his back on a return to the Premier League after being linked with several English clubs this summer.
West Ham United were believed to be interested in signing the Barca forward, yet he now looks destined for a move to France.
