Cristiano Ronaldo is distraught about the catastrophic floods that have killed 32 people in his native Madeira and has pledged to help the devastated island.
He said: ‘I’m incredulous, shocked, distressed. It’s a big catastrophe. I feel the pain of all the population.’
The former Manchester United man was at his imperious best on Sunday as he inspired Real Madrid to a crushing 6-2 defeat of Villarreal.
Ronaldo hammered his new club ahead in the 18th minute with a trademark free-kick. He revealed a t-shirt underneath his jersey emblazoned with the word 'Madeira' in tribute to those on his home island.
Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain also grabbed a brace, while former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso completed proceedings with a penalty.
