Nostalgia
Nostalgia is the future; the past without the pain,
Wistfulness the dream I dreamt when longing kept me sane,
Longing is the dream I have to be nostalgia free,
But slipping into future thoughts it never lets me be.
Nostalgia is seductive, the temptress and the sprite,
A shadow that won’t let me go, I carry it as blight.
Nostalgia is a lesson but a lesson I’ll not learn,
For none but I will ever know the past for which I yearn.
Nostalgia is the sentiment that’s knocking at my door,
For time will tell - I know so well that it will leave me poor.
Nostalgia is tomorrow, the past I can’t un-write,
Melancholy my lullaby, the ever bitter bite.
Nostalgia is the cross I bear, the price of growing old,
Reminisce and wistfulness are sentiments of gold,
Appreciate the moment, hold it to your breast,
When days will slip away from you -
Yearning is your guest.
