A Mouse in the House

Our house is an old house and we are constantly doing repairs and changing things. One day as I went upstairs to our lounge (yes ours is on the first floor, kitchen on the ground floor), I saw a mouse skitter away. When my heart had calmed down, I called to my husband Karl to come and see. ‘Well where did that come from’ says he, ‘from that little hole there, I think’ says I. ‘O, the little bugger must have followed the central heating pipes from outside into the house’ said he. ‘well make sure it cant do it again’ says I, not wanting to share my living space with a mouse. ‘ I’ll block the hole with a piece of marble, it wont be able to chew through that’, says he. And so he did, but that meant he left a bit of a mess and so I decided to repaint the wall to clean it up. But as you all know, you can’t paint just one wall can you, cos then the other three look dirty, so the whole room got a paint job. During a visit to the toilet whilst painting, I realised we have never finished stone cladding the wall behind the door, and seeing as we are working in this area, we might as well do that job too, dont you think? so off went long suffering Karl to collect some stone from the fields nearby to put on the wall, while I finished painting the lounge.
Next day he mixed cement and I stone clad round the toilet door. With some cement and stones left I started looking round on where to use them up, while Karl got the paint out to paint the bathroom. Oh yes, that had to be done now to finish that job off nicely.
I spotted somewhere I could use up the stones and cement, yes you’ve guessed, in the lounge I had just painted. ‘Well the chimney breast would look better’ said I, ‘if you say so’ said Karl
So the chimney breast got stone clad, the paint got touched up and the upstairs was finished.
Well almost!
