ITV A law unto themselves

The ITV's autocratic approach to all things motoring.

Towbars in Spain
Sunday, May 6, 2012 @ 4:05 PM

The law as practiced by the ITV in all things motoring is at best stupid. In the case of towbars they excell themselves.

The EU directive EC94 20 to which all member states are rquired to comply is quite clear and yet the ITV will not allow any vehicle registerred prior to September 1998 to be fitted with a tow bar. The current rulings requiring homologatio came into force in Sepember 1998 and allow for any vehicle registerred prior to that date to be exempt but the ITV says no. I was made to remove my towbar when I imported my vehicle, compared to one of my neighbours I was lucky, the local ITV centre took a grinder to his towbar and cut it off.

I have written to the EU and whilst they agree that all member nations should adhere to their legislation, they concede that Spain can do as it likes.

This is just one of several run ins I have had with the ITV and so I am going to put my vehicle back on English plates and put my towbar back on.
