I have just been reading my contract and too my horror I have noticed the charges for water and gas connection of 1,500 euro's. I' have spoken to friends who have bought properties in Spain and the charges have only been half this amount. What sort of prices have you been quoted for these connections. We are buying a two bed two bathroom appartment on R6 due to be completed June 2007.

Dear Astra
We have been quoted the same amount (€1500) for connection. We havnt spoken to any one else so I do not know if this is expensive. Do you know if your friends are on MAINS gas or bottled as this may have some bearing on cost.

Hi
I am buying a bungalow on R7, and I have had the final statement from the solicitors. There is a 1500 euro charge for the connections, but this seems to be in with the total price, as nowhere on my statement does an extra 1500 euros appear.
There is a charge for 'management of contracts for electricity and water', whatever that means, and that's 186 euros.
Better to clarify with your solicitors I think.

Hi
We completed on our apartment last June and did not pay anything extra for the connections, although we had the same clause in our contract.
One thing to watch - when we went out in September our water had been cut off for non-payment of the standard bill - resolved fairly easily through the builders but appears to have been caused through a mistake on account details.

Hi all,
i too have a property on La finca and i think this 1500euros seems to be a bit of a contention as its not really made clear when your agent gives you details of the costs involved when buying. I have had different feedback from various people about this and i have also heard that you may be able to claim some of this cost back as a rebate but i am not sure just yet ,details to follow as soon as i know. If you havent got your gas water and electricity on direct debit you will find that you get cut off pretty quickly if you are not in your property when the non payment is issued you get about 2days at the most, and then you have to pay a reconnection charge. One other problem we have been having is with the water pressure and pipes being blown off and flooding the garden or underbuild, i have turned the pressure down to compensate so as to try and reduce the amount of water going through the meter tillsomebody notices and turns it off or contacrs the office at La finca.

We have been in our place about 15 mths now,the charge was in our contract as 1087 euro's and when it came time to pay 3yrs on had risen to 1500 and it stipulates in the contracts that the value is an estimate - still almost a 40% increase does seem to be taking the micky.
