 Hi Folks

I know that there is another thread on a similar subject but I'm just after an update of sorts.

Last summer when we were out at SG we signed up to the tele-micro system and it was great... for about three weeks!!

Then, as we know,  it got switched off.

Anyway when we were out in November for a weekend it was back on?

So my question is...is it still on now or is it switched off again?

If its on who is running it and what channels do we get?

or

If its off, whats the best alternative?

Cheers for any info you can give.

Chris

From a brief bit of googling, I'm afraid that telemicro is not likely to return. They appeared to have a small revival in November whilst they attempted to gain permission for UK channels, but all now seems dead.

See some forum links below for extra info.

As far as what next - Torresat is one alternative, (see link to a topic in the SG forum      - eyeonspain. c o m/community-forum/15975/satellite-tv.aspx) but some initial digging suggests you do your research - torrevieja. c o. u k/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=34857

The next most obvious is a dish and either Sky or Freesat. Jane (see her thread from the SG link above) has provided me some info on a local provider, but basically you're looking at a 1.7 - 1.9 metre dish.

Regards

Andy

P.S. the forum won't let me provide links - so you'll have to add www in front of the link tand take the spaces out of c o m and c o . u k to make it work (sorry).

Hi Chris,

Telemicro went out of business last July/August, when they were raided by the Police, and all masts & equipment removed. The local papers spoke of a massive fraud investigation. They have not, obviously, broadcast anything since. From the end of October, a firm calles Simulsat started broadcasting on the card/receiver  formally used by Telemicro. Their screen message posted on the Telemicro channel informed all watching that they could sign up with them, free before the end of december, and pay 19.90 euros monthly. Around 20 channels were available, including BBC and ITV, together with various sports & film channels. They were still broadcasting in January, March, and May, when we were there. At the beginning of May, a message appeared saying that all broadcasts would be scrambled at the end of may, but you could sign up to receive the programs. A list of installation engineers contact numbers are on the screen,  They offer a monthly rate of 19.90 euros with the ability to cancel on a months notice.  The good thing about it is that your equipment from Telemicro will receive the programs, ours were crystal clear. Not sure if the sign-up is still free though. Well worth looking at.

Regards
John B.

Interesting - from some forum research (bless Google) it seems that views are mixed. It may even be possible to receive their transmissions without a contract! so I'd see what you get when you're next in SG. See link below for some further info.
