Skiing in the Sierra Nevada

 Does anybody know anything about skiing in Spain? I'm interested in the fact that it only takes around 3 hours to drive to Granada,  from Condado de Alhama, which should mean it's possible to go skiing for the day.......... Thanks. Geoff.

I went skiing in the Sierra Nevada last winter and it was about 2 hour 45 minutes drive, although I stopped for a couple of nights so cannot comment on doing it there and back in a day.  There is plenty of skiing for all abilities. Its very high and above the tree line with lots of of wide open pistes.

Done the trip a couple of times  takes between 2.5-3 hrs depending on your speed and traffic, but a smooth trip.

leave at 6 and your are parked up at 9, hire your gear (approx €25 a day) buy a ski pass i think €40) and you are on the mountain top at 10.  leave at 5 and you are home at 9 latest. When you go on weekday or at least avoid holiday season the ques are not worth mentioning.

Facilities are great, only when you are a fanatic you will be disappointed with the challenge of the slopes, but for the average skier, great fun.

Directions  - you can't miss it  it is clearly signposted when you approach Granada  - just follow the signs Sierra Nevada.

Beware that when it is snowing you might need snow chains, and it is not unusual that they turn back cars without them on the access road....

We are hoping to have 3 days there after Easter in a kind of golf/ski/golf sandwich!

If you need some company,i was thinking of doing some sking at some point.

Apparently, due to its height, you can ski in May! However, high winds can often close the lifts so it would be advisable to check the latest weather. The best time to go would be mid-week to avoid the week end rush, so we may go early wednesday and return friday evening with a 2 night stop-over.
