My parents are visiting Murcia at the end of August. Can you recommend places I can take them, they are in their seventies but still active. They like cultural shows, and historical places.

Can you also recommend any nice restaurants

Thanks

Leigh Bristol

Take them for a day out to Aleado

see the monisitry on the way back and have some lunch (hotel maripossa at la santa i think) go on a sunday may catch a spanish wedding

theres a great veiw point in the mountains opposite the maripossa  which you can drive up with a large statue of christ at the top of the hill ,stunning veiws.

Aleado has a castle in the sleepy mountain village. you can make it out at night when the sun sets almost right behind the castle and the village lights up on the mountain tops.

just an option for us old folk.

The guns are definately worth a visit overlooking Cartagena bay not to far away either. But the drive through the mountains is not for the faint hearted. Great veiws however and the castle restoration is almost unreal (quality)

Try Cartagena city. Loads of historical things in a smallish area. Call into the tourist info in the town hall at the bottom of Calle Mayor to get a map and directions. Opposite is the Roman Theatre - this is a must, everyone seems to love it, from youngsters to oldies like us.

Our Granddaughter was thrilled to sit in the same seat that someone had used 2000 years ago.

There's also the habour tour on the tourist ferry fro the harbour at Cartagena which seems to run every 45 minutes or so and is 7.50 euro's each. You get a potted history in several languages througout the tour- its very pleasant and a definite must for my father and mother in law when they visit us in a couple of weeks.

We also plan to go into Puerto Mazarron as the promenade and marina there are so much improved from our early visits in 2007 and its a good place to get a meal throughout the day and watch the comings and goings on the beach or for an evening meal there's plenty of choice. Especially if you have faddy eaters. there are a lot of restaurants serving English food.

We went up to the guns in April when all the work was in full progress - I wouldnt reccommend going up during busy periods as the road is very narrow and we did have a bump! with some idiot going too fast past us (we were stationery)  the passing places are few and far between.

I would lile to hear if anyone has been recently as the views are spectacular and the guns are are real sight to behold.  Dont forget to take torches for the underground rooms (I had to get out as it was very dark as quite claustrophobic)

Take Care
