New Terminal Opening in Alicante Airport does this affect Car Rental Area??

Hi All

Its about 6 months since we have been to Condado. Looking forward to our Easter & Summer Visits. We have just booked cars with car jet for Summer & Easter Holidays. Yesterday I received an email from them advising that Terminal 2 would be opening in Alicante shortly and we needed to go the Dickmans Office to collect car (this is done via bus from certain zones) this sounds really akward especially during high season we will be travelling with children and new born baby.  Just wondering really have all of the rental desks moved and the collection points or are the likes of Goldcar etc still in the same area??

Terminal 2 has been open for a few years now, generally we found that nearly all the budget airlines are directed there. When we were there for New Year the car hire offices were still down in terminal 1. Dont know about Dickmans as i've never used them

 Agree with Mike and Dawm, T2 has been in operation for at least a couple of years, but the car hire offices seem miles away in T1.  Maybe they are relocating or opening new offices in T2???

We have used Dickmans regularly.  They are however out of the airport and on the top floor of the carpark.  You won't have to queue at the desks in the airport which is good but you will have to go up 2 flights of steps which might not be easy with small children.  I am not sure if there is a lift.  The cars however are always newer than the others and the service is superb but agian it's a bring back empty policy.

we have a couple of car hires booked this year with do you spain, one for today (my husband has gone out today) and we received an email from do you spain saying that due to the new terminal opening the car hire will now be with dickenson (it was originally booked with record and they sent a new voucher) and that we have to exit where the buses are and a shuttle bus will take us to the car hire desk - not tried it yet, so dont know how easy/difficult it is??

Apparently a third terminal opened today.  I have copied the following text off another forum.

''Have just got back from Alicante airport and it was a bit chaotic!!! There was taffic jams as you came off the roundabout to get into the roundabout cos the drivers were confised where to go. The exits to the car park and car rental were closed off with a man stopping the traffic trying to turn in. You then drive round past Terminal 1 and go straight on and round to Terminal 3 into the car park. Only Taxis and buses can park outside. The actual entrance to the airport is 4 floors up. Once you turn into the car park you have to drive up up to the 4 th floor( all the parking areas up to the 4th floor are closed off) and then park and then you walk into the Terminal building . IN the Terminal you go up to Departures and down to Arrivals We were meeting someone so after we had walked around we finally found where the passengers come out from. There are 2 automatic doors from where the baggage reclaim is and one set was not working properly and it kept trapping people!! My cousin waited 45 minutes for his baggage off a Monarch flight this morning so hopefully it has got better as the day has gone. Terminal 1 and 2 are both closed so ALL flights in and out are going from Terminal 3. It was lucky that my cousins flight was delayed by 1/2 hour cos by the time we had gone round the roundabout twice and done a circuit of the airport, parked and then finally fount the arrivals we arrived just as his plane landed but then had to wait another 45 minutes before he got out. Advise - allow plenty of time if you are going to meet someone or are departing.''

We have just got back from Alicante.  Arrived at the old airport on Sunday and to the new Airport opened today.  It did look as if the old airport was all shut up.  There were no queues or traffic jams when we arrived approx 10.45 and there are signs up showing where to go to return your hire car.  When we arrived at this area the signs for each car hire company are at the entrance to the hire car park  stating which level to go to - ours was Centuro and the sign stated they were on level 3.  Up we went and parked the car with all the other Centuro cars however there was no office to return the keys.  

We then found our way into the terminal found the car hire companies and handed the keys back and told them where we had parked the car and the number of the bay.

We have hired from Dickmanns but could not see them sorry so cannot help here but the airport did not seem as chaotic as stated  but maybe it was the time of day.

I don't know if I am part of the half full brigade but I felt rather sad not to go to the old airport and talking to some of the employees there they were a bit sad also.

I also think that this blog is up there with The Quiet Man.
