Murcia Today - President Valcárcel Says San Javier Airport Will Close

President of the Murcian regional government, has announced that there is now an agreement in place with Aena for San Javier airport to close its civil aviation operations, transferring flights to Corvera and making the new airport viable

Just travelled back from MSJ last week and its our favourite airport world wide and although the proposed new airport will be nearer our spanish house its a real blow to us and many others . Murcia San Javier is a fantastic Airport , Almost stress free with good parking , fast security screening, easy car hire and short travel to the planes.  Its also right next to the lovely resort of Los Alcazares on the Mar Menor which we always visited on the way to the airport. Prbably a big blow to people who purchased here as well.

I doubt all the wasted millions spent on refurbishing MSJ will ever be recovered.

Cant understand the logic in whats planned for the future ?

Another little update on negotiations re Corvera.

Mark - you're right but if there wasn't such bureaucracy here compared to the UK just think how many more thousands of Brits would be making the move and joining us in this beautiful country. At the moment is mainly just those brave enough. So there is a silver lining to it.

A large independent consortium decide to build a new airport in Murcia – fine, good for the future of Murcia, but I think it would have been prudent to have negotiated with the ruling body first!

“complicated and bureaucratic” – I do not think so, if Murcia is to go forward it needs an international airport; the complications evolved because the “independents” hadn’t done their homework! - at least Valcárcel is trying to sort it out.

underpar – what an absolute load of b______s – “wasn't such bureaucracy here compared to the UK”; the final straw in the UK for me, was when I was offered precautionary advice by a police officer to move my car, due to the fact that the river may flood; this was not a problem, having experienced it for a few years it was excepted that all the residents moved their cars to higher ground, even though it was on “double yellow lines”.

You can guess what I had on my car the next morning – no reasoning or logic would they listen to………..

Talk about bureaucracy gone mad – the UK has more of it than anywhere I know – lots of people hanging on to jobs they should not have………….

Spain has had a very difficult recent history; it is trying to address the inherited system. Bit by bit things will change, if you can not support them, do not berate them, simply GET OUT!
