Dickmanns at MJV thru DYS

Has anyone else had a problem recently with these? Hired 2 cars for Easter & now Dickmanns have told DYS that it is outside the timescales for issuing a refund for the deposit. They have nearly 2000€ of ours! Ridiculous.

I also booked a car at Easter where they took €950 deposit.  Waited a week after I returned then started emailng DYS and Dickmanns looking for my refund.  Eventually got it back on the 27th April.

I have just arrived and had to pay them this ridiculous €950 deposit also. Did you get everything back you were entitled to Gerry ? I don't trust these robbing ******** for a minute. We know what their game is, they try & blackmail you into taking the extra insurances so they can squeeze more money out of you. The fact that they rip you off with the fuel charges is not enough is it ! I have got used to accepting the fuel charges as the car hire itself is pretty cheap if you book early enough and I accept they need to make enough to stay in business. What these people need to realise is that we visitors are their life blood and if you continue to keep trying to find ways to rape the customers they are going to desert you. I was the only person picking up a hire car from the Dickmans van when our flight came in. You have to wonder why a credit card 'block' is not just applied as the deposit and it makes you very suspicious of their motives. I don't know how they get away with the things they do in this country. I am unsure whether to phone my credit card company today and get them to dispute this payment.

Any advice please from those of you that were in the same boat.

Billbo, got one deposit back, sending back today the dipute forms for the other one. Ridiculous that we have to do the running around for these robbing clowns!

Absolute disgrace. You can do without that - having to follow up and check your statement all of the time. You just want to pay the hire cost & necessary insurance and be done with it. 

For or those of you coming to Spain to pick up a hire car from Dickmans here is what to expect:-

1) be bullied into taking their extra insurance and return car on a full-full basis = pay extra 165 euros for the week.

2)decline the extra insurance because you have your own annual 'extras' policy = pay them 950 euros deposit which they will charge on your card. Then pay123 euros  for the tank of fuel. The car I have has a 50 litre tank and fuel at the pumps is around 1.27. So do the maths - more than double the cost there then. The poxy car does not even have a remote to open/lock doors. No keyhole in the boot so you have to do this from drivers seat.

my advice to anyone is to cancel your rental with Dickmans if at all possible and go with someone else who you can see what all the charges are going to be. I would be delighted to see them go to the wall. On speaking to my credit card company this morning, the feedback I got was that any hassle they have to deal with over disputed bills & payments is always with Spanish car hire companies.

Cant understand why people keep booking with Dickmanns when the internet full of these horror stories, (pay cheap pay twice) as much. If people are not renting from Dickmanns, there are going to screw over the mugs that do rent from them. Easy answer is buy a car of your own, if you can afford it.

Problem is you do not know who the car rental company is until the voucher comes through. You don't necessarily have to be a mug to end up with a dodgy deal. I have had dickmans in the past and they have been ok. All of the companies change the goalposts on a regular basis and you don't often find out what the damage is until you pick up the hire agreement. Maybe you are that bright you can see right through that then.

The thing is you dont have to be that bright, just use a broker that does not use Dickmanns  . Simple

Ive just looked at the DYS website, and you can un-tick the dickmanns box on the left hand side of the page to take them out of the search, i dont how this works when they give the voucher.

Dickmanns are liars, cheats and thieves. Beware.

When I collected the car, I was informed that they would reserve a deposit of 950 euros for excess insuramce and 80+ euros for petrol. They said it would not be debited and they would only take what was due on return. They lied. They debited my card for over 1000 euros on the day I collected the car.

When I returned the car and got back home I noticed that they had debited that card. I contacted them and asked them to refund the amount immediately. They said the policy was to refund only 25 days after return of the vehicle. The contract had stated (in very small print) that the refund would be made on return not 25 days later. They therefore held over 1000 euros of my money for over 35 days without permission. They cheated me out of the interest on this.

Finally, the contract was full/empty. They said they would charge an admin fee plus the cost of fuel used. They charged well in excess of the fuel used. They stole money for fuel I did not use.

The only plus point is that they didn't rip me off for non-existent damage like they have done with others.

They are thieves, cheats and liars. Do not do business with this company. There are plenty of other companies to hire cars from.

I feel the same way about Goldcar. Bullies and cheats. I never use them.  

I'm now super careful when I get cars and always drag the staff from their office if I notice any un-noted damage before I leave the car compound. 

I use DYS all the time but find that going for the Full/Full fuel options seems to get rid of the cowboys and the total cost is comparable.
