Our agent got everything ready for us and we set it up on same day as completing. Your main issue is getting an NIE number which you can queue up for ages to get at Alicante. If you have this it all seemed straight forward but as I say all of the groundwork was done before we got there.
I am not sure we needed to be there to actually open the account but it helped.
