Some good news on the infrastructure front - In my spare time I am a bit of an anorach!!! Anyway Murcia has plans for a tram system, the trial line of which is already installed and operational heading north of Plaza Circular. Anyway if you look at the web site (in spanish) http://www.tranvimur.es/ Linea 2 is going to go to Sangonera La Verde.
My understanding is that this is only a proposal at the moment, dont know if it has been approved, but it would great if it went even to Sangonera Dont think it will go to Torre Guil, but hey I am happy with Sangonera.
On a sad note it would seem that the Spanish Government are not going upgrade the line from Albacete to Murcia nor Alicante to Murcia to high speed operation. I dont know if this will affect the new line from Murcia to Almeria or not.
The Northern Rock must be having an influence on them in Spain also!!!
Regards
The Anorach!

we were there last week, definitely the tram is going to stop at the commercial center "el palmar" just opposite the tv station by the motorway exit to sangonera and then there'll be one more stop at the town ..... and according to the source it won't be much more than a euro all the way to murcia city.

Agent at show house seemed to suggest that work on the tram to Sangonera was due to start in 2009. Fingers crossed.
On another rail related note travelled from Madrid to Balsicas - Mar Menor last week on the train in first class. Service was excellent, food and drinks served at seat and included in price. Journey accross Castilla la Mancha is quite fast as far as Albacete, (even though you are on the old line, you can see the new AVE line to Albacete being built at Albacete) then you branch down to Hellin and Cieza (this section was slow). After Cieza and down to Murcia things speed up again. There are however signs up along the route advising that the railway is being invested in. Travelling through Calasparra you get some great views of the paddy fields.
A highly recommended trip for anyone wishing to go up from Murcia to Madrid, you can book on line with some of the advance web fares in second class being quite resonable (I should be on commission!)
Regards
Stephen

The Article in the PSOE Party Web Site -
