Hola!  Anyone who is buying or has bought at Al Andalus or in that area.
Our apartment is due for completion later this year (2008) and we have the option of buying an 'extras pack' via MRI which will include things like cutlery, crockery, bed-linen, towels etc.  We were originally given a price of 1500Euros - that was in March last year.  Then when we went out in October we were told 1965Euros which seems quite a lot and I'm wondering if it will have gone up again by the time we actually complete.
Has anyone got any idea how their price compares with the local equivalent to Ikea (is it Eskom or something like?) and just buying it all ourselves, especially if we will have to get someone to fix things like towel rails etc. anyway.  On the other hand if their price is comparable we'd probably go for it for the convenience.
Any help/advice appreciated.
Pauline & Noel

Hi Pauline & Noel

We completed on Thalassa in October & originally had intended to use the MRI extras pack at €1965.

However, we changed our minds & shopped for everything locally. The initial shop included - all the kitchen equipment (toaster, kettle, pots & pans, iron & board, airer etc) bathroom fittings, lights, hairdryer, duvets, pillows - in fact pretty much everything on the list that MRI provided.

Our initial outlay was €860 plus €120 for throws & cushions at Garrucha market. we also took over sheets & quilt covers & towels but they were from places like Matalan & Wilkinsons & were not very expensive. We also bought a TV & DVD (not on the MRI list) from Depau for €411. Total so far - €1391. a few odds & ends here & there probably brings the total up to €1500 which is still substantially less than MRI.

We also paid €420 for 2 bath screens to be fitted. All the bathroom fittings, lights, washing line etc were fitted by Dave Baxter & we also use Dave & his wife Anita for Keyholding & property management.

I have put together a list of local shops that we used & if you want me to email it to you, please PM me your email address.

Regards

Noreen

Hi Pauline,

Noreen is spot on.  It is best to shop in Spain, more fun anyway than having a package dumped on you. Noreen's list is an excellent start.  We found that it only took us a couple of days to get sorted out.  To stay in the apartment you will need bedding, crockery, cutlery, linen, kettle as a start as they are not provided.  After that you can take your time in putting your stamp on it.  DB is a mine of information on where to get things and will also get shower screens and fit for you.

Best of luck

David
