Council Tax

Can anyone tell me if the council have to provided us with street lights. This is a much discussed and argued about subject amongst the residence of a small urbanization in Murcia. Many believe as in the UK the tax we pay the council should cover the lighting - is this true?

We live on a small community of 54 houses & our community pays for the lighting as the roads within our community are classed as private, though we're not a gated community & so used by anyone. Our community is one of around 30 communities within an urb, the urb's main roads have street lights paid for by the IBI tax. Not sure if that helps you.

Hi - we're in the same position as More - the main streets through our urb have been adopted by the council and they provide and maintain the street lights. Within the urb we have a number of small private streets, again not gated so anyone could use them, and we have our own lights which were installed by the builders. We pay the electricity and do the maintenance on these.
If you think you have "main roads" which should have public lighting then you could ask the town hall to adopt the road and then they are liable to provide the lighting too.
Like everything here - never a simple answer!
