Christmas in La Cala Hills, Nr Mijas
The Comments |
Being a young pensioner couple from up near Valencia, and thinking about a winter break down on the south coast, I came across several apartments on La Cala Hills which would fit the bill accommodation-wise. However, never having been down that way, and before committing my husband I to a 2 week visit, I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what sort of experience we could expect during a stay over Christmas and the New Year down around Mijas way - for instance, is La Cala Hills likely to be a ghost-'town' over this period or do golfers still golf when it's cold, are we likely to be able to find a restaurants open where we could perhaps enjoy a Christmas lunch or New Year's Eve dinner and socialise, what weather are we likely to have etc. etc.? Any information which could help me colour the picture would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol,
La Cala Hills is just 5 mins drive from Fuengirola which is lovely at Xmas as its a all year round town unlike the other tourist towns on other coasts. All the golf courses will be open and there are always loads of people on the Costa del Sol over Xmas.La Cala Hills is an upmarket complex next to Mijas Golf so you should be pretty comfy in there.
Enjoy your Xmas!

Many thanks for the info. And a nice thought too, if this resort is, as you say, maybe a little nicer than average, then we will be getting value for money as it seems that all the owners we approached have actually taken on board that there is a ´creesis´in Spain and have been prepared to negotiate very much in favour of renters.
From what you have said it doesn´t sound like a ´Scrooge´Christmas will be on the cards for us.
Thanks once again.
Carol

Hi Carol,
Christmas down here on the Costa is great with the shops all open 7 days a week from December and all the restaurants are taking bookings already for Christmas Day so you should be quick to do your research for where you want to spend it.
Enjoy!

Thanks Sam. I don´t suppose, if you know the area well, you could recommend one or two restaurants I could try. Very difficult to know where to start if you have never been down that way before.
Kind regards

Hi Carol
The Restaurant in Dona Lola, Calahonda and you could also try Mijas Playa at La Cala. Two very good restaurants at either end of the budget.
Good luck!!
