Hi All,
I use Google Mail and I was just looking through my Spam messages (which I never check!) and found emails from companies selling viagra and well...things you can enlarge. I tried blocking them but it doesn't work.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Theres not much you can do but most free email accounts will usually clear out your junk folder automatically after a set number of days.
As philevans said, have you entered your email address onto a website? Even a message board or anywhere on the web as there are many types of software out there that scout for email addresses just to fire out spam. If you have to post an email somewhere always disguise it ie. name[at]here[com]
As they have your email though there is not much you can do to stop the mail coming through and never click on 'unsubscribe' if you see it on one of the viagra pages as the spam will get worse.

I am with googlemail too, and if you check the spam folder you will see a message saying that all spam messages will be automatically deleted after 30 days. You can also go into the spam folder and click a button to delete all spam messages, which I tend to do once or twice a week.

You will find that these messages are only sent to men who
how shall I say ,Dont Measure Up.
Be grateful for what god has given you.
Have a good Christmas.
ps This is only a joke ( for all members, no pun intended, who dont have a sense of humour)

Sometimes things get chucked into the rubbish by mistake! I almost missed an email from a friend as it ended up in spam by mistake, which is why I go into spam occasionally just to glance down the list before deleting them all. I don't bother reading them though!

It doesn't end in spam by mistake. On Hotmail, for example, if you set your spam to "Exclusive", only emails from your safe list (those in your contact list plus those added subsequently toyour safe list) will get into your inbox. So if you have an email from anyone who hasn't sent you previously, it will go to spam. So, yes, of course you should check your spam within the timelimit for automatic deletion. The point of my post was to express surprise that anyone would be upset at their junkmail folder containing junk - which is precisely its purpose.
I'm confused as to why my post was deemed offensive though. Could a moderator pm me please to explain.

Hi Jek
I didn't explain myself properly when I said my friend's email went into spam "by mistake" - as you pointed out, it was an email from a friend who hadn't emailed me previously, but obviously from my point of view it wasn't spam! I agree, it is far better to have a separate spam folder, as there is nothing more annoying than having to go through every email in your inbox to delete spam.
I don't think anything offensive was said, unless I missed something?!
Time to wish everybody a very merry Christmas and a happy, spam-free, New Year!

Sunrise,
Googlemail (gmail) is normally 100% effective at filtering Spam for me.
It's the best and fully functional email service without a doubt and you can easily create your own filters.
View inbox and select the offending emails by checking the boxes on the left hand side.
Click on 'More Actions'
Select 'Filter Messages Like These'
Now you can create a filter for emails containing 'Viagra' or 'Enlarge'
Click 'Next Step' and then check 'Delete it' and finally 'Create Filter'
Filters can be maintained from 'Settings' (top right) / 'Filters'
Also check 'Settings' / 'Lables' and ensure that 'Spam' is set to 'Hide'.
Hope this helps.

I have a second e-mail address. It's very good for keeping personal stuff separate and another address when sometimes a web site asks for an address and you are not sure. If the second e.mail address starts to get too much spam, just abandon it
