There is an Ikea in Murcia. Is there any chance you could do the furnishing yourself ? it might save you a lot of money if you have the time and inclination to do it.

Our house was furnished by Galerias Aitana in Calpe. The quality of everything was very good and  I was pleased with everything they provided. The garden furniture, light fittings, bathroom fitings etc were all included. They thought of everything .The only minor criticism was the choice of colour schemes in the bedrooms , nothing matched, but they were very good and I was able to exchange items.

The company who arranged this no longer operate but I am sure Galerias Aitana still provide furniture packs. Try their website for enquiries.

i second that

third and fourth it.

furniture packs were ideal for those with a 120% mortgage that were on a spend spend spend but not they are just a silly expense.

buy it yourself if possible and if you are not in spain find someone on here that has spare time.

bung them 100 euros and get them to buy what you  choose out of the ikea catalogue

Hi John

There's a company called easyflatpax who specialise in IKEA shopping and will easily do this job for you and at low cost too.

They'll choose and furnish to your requirements and budget and do a good job. They do all the shopping and delivery, sort out any hitches and they're in IKEA Murcia at least twice a week so if anything is out of stock - as is so often the case with popular items - they just add it on to their back-order list. It's all part of the service.

You can call them on 966462129 or 647790340. Their prices are clearly shown on their website, can't give you the full url as it's advertising but just search for easyflatpax. As a for instance, a shop of 1000€ will cost you 150€ inc IVA. Assembly if you wanted it would be extra.

Good luck with your new home!

If you have any sense you will not put any Ikea furniture in your property. They are ideal for lights, nick nacks etc but its like anything else you get what you pay for.

A few years ago my neighbour got  2sofas from Ikea, 6 months later he replaced them as they had both broken. His father sat on one and ended up straight through it with his backside on the floor. His beds lasted no more than a year, very poor qaulity, not a patch on the quality you will find elsewhere, even in used furniture stores.

You pays your money you takes your choice as they say, if I was you I would have a good look around though.

Hi, We bought all of our furniture from DFS - direct furniture spain.  They have a website and have a large shop in San Javier.  We went into their shop and chose everything when first went out to reserve our apartment.  Paul, who I think might be the shop manager guided us through everything.  He offered some really good advice and had the patience of a saint .  He even helped with the purchase of our electricals for the kitchen which were from another store as DFS don't do these.  They had a huge choice and I thought thier prices were reasonable.  Everything was completely stress free and nothing was too much trouble.

We bought a furniture pack from CDA Services. They are based on the other Polaris World Resort, Condado de Alhama but installed for us on Hacienda Riquleme. Would highly recommend them and after shopping around later, we thought that it wouldnt have cost us any more if we had bought everything individually ourselves.

I do think someone must be mistaken about IKEA and the quality of their products.

It is patently obvious that IKEA could not have built up such a successful worldwide business built on supply of shoddy goods. IF someone had had a problem after only 6 months surely they would have complained to IKEA and returned the items concerned?

IKEA offer a minimum 10 year guarantee and up to a 25 year guarantee on all their ranges of sofas and beds, which is far more than most manufacturers. And no quibble.

I suspect that the items in question must have been badly treated if the buyer was not able to use the guarantee.

We have supplied similar items from IKEA to hundreds of customers in our 4 years of existence and our business is built on our own quality and service and equally on that of IKEA.

Hi - I have some buy to lets here in the UK and have had for many years.  When Ikea first arrived in my area, I saw it as an opportunity to kit out my properties in a stylish but inexpensive way.   I can promise you - it does not work.  I am sure Ikea stuff is fine for family use and I am not knocking them.  But for the wear and tear of holiday lets you need something much more better.   Also, as a general rule, Ikea's sofas, sofa beds,  beds, large items of furniture, are not that cheap.  People are drawn to the cheap and cheerful which is fine, but if you are going to let - I would think again.  Never had an Ikea bed that lasted more than one tenant (about 1 year).  When we completed on our place in Spain, people were rushing to buy dirt cheap lights at Ikea (never mind the time and money to get there) - and you know what?  That is what they looked like - dirt cheap!!!!!     So just be careful - and think about the usage!!

I too have a villa I let out and it's filled with IKEA furniture. I just don't see the point in kitting it out with really expensive furniture. 5 years ago I put in a leather suite which cost well over 2000 pounds in the UK. Within one year it was finished with red wine stains all over it, where the tennants had a party. Now, if that had been an IKEA Ektorp sofa at 229 pounds, I could have just changed the cover at 40 pounds! I will never see the point in spending money on things that tennants are not going to look after particularly well. Brian, I'm not sure what your tennants do to the beds you have, but mine have lasted the last 5 years ok. I'd agree the mattresses probably need changing soon, but again, the bases are fine.

It's more than this though, I actually like the styles IKEA have and I think their furniture fits well with Spanish properties. Don't forget, you have much more choice of good stuff in the UK. Here in Spain we are stuck with Spanish furniture, most of which is pretty poorly made, or IKEA. As I've already said, who else gives a minimum 10 year guarantee?

The biggest problem with all of this is transport and if you live in the UK, actually shopping and assembling. Try 'easy flatpax'. Google them or phone on 0034 96 647 0770.
