English bike carriers

I have just found out that spanish trafico do not like english rear mounted bike carriers, apparently need some kind of chequered sign to show length of car has been extended, also very picky about obscuring rear lights even in daylight, cost me €40, but allowed to continue journey.

Officially you are supposed to have a rear light board just like a trailer.
But they rarely stop the morroccis with their overloaded roof racks!

In the UK the regulations about not being dangerous, not obscuring lights or number plate also apply.
