Telephone contract in Owner's or Tenant's name?
The Comments |
Hi,
Does anyone know whether it can be dangerous to let their tenant set up a telephone/internet contract in their name? I'm worried that if they don't pay their bill and leave then it will be my responsibility to pay.
I'd really appreciate any comments.
Thank you

I would personally never dream of having a tenant's phone contract in my name! Especially knowing how routinely Telefonica can screw up your phone bills.
I would recommend you let them set it up in their names. The contract will have their passport or DNI/ NIE number so I wouldn't think it would affect you should they not pay the bill when they leave.
Alternatively, hold back the refund of the deposit until all bills have been cleared.

Never let a tenant have a phone in your name! This would be crazy! If they want a phone they need to do it in their own names otherwise you would be liable for anu unpaid bills.

This was a question of whether one should allow a tenant set up a telephone counteract in THEIR name, not in the owners name.
I do not know for sure but if it is in their name I don't see how the owner would be responsible.
If the tenant sets up a mobile phone contract, buys a car whilst living the property, buys something on credit, opens a bank account, etc. it would be unthinkable that the property owner could stop them
