Automatic residency rights if you buy a house in Spain
The Comments |
FOREIGNERS who buy properties in Spain valued at 160,000 euros or more may automatically get residence cards in a new government initiative to encourage homebuyers from overseas. They say the move is mainly aimed at Chinese and Russian nationals, but does not believe it will lead to a sudden rush for residence certificates to be approved.
What do you think? A good initiative?

Is your brother from the European Union? This goes for anyone as far as I am aware, from any country in the world regardless.
It is "supposedly" a new incitiative.

The Government's announcement as of yesterday was that they are considering granting automatic residency authorization for foreign citizens, not EU nationals, who purchase a property for a price of Euros 160,000 or more. EU nationals do not need the residency authorization.
Although this still under consideration, it appears that in actual practice the criteria for granting residency in those circumstances have been somewhat relaxed in the past few months.
