Car Insurance in Spain
The Comments |
We don't have a car in Spain yet but with the high cost of car hiring it may well be an option.
I was informed yesterday that insurance in Spain is on the car and not per person as it is in the UK. Is this correct ? If so if we insure a car can all my family drive ( provided they of course have their own insurance ? )
Thank you .

Yes it is the car that is insured in Spain. The usual restriction is that drivers under 25/26 are not permitted to drive unless by separate endorsement. Typically full comp cover usually includes breakdown cover as well. Finally other than the named policy holder there should be (recommended) a written authorisation from that person for anybody else driving the car to kept in glovebox.

I'm with Linea Directa, and as Juan says, my policy just names me, and anyone over 26 as able to drive. However, it's not as cheap as it is in the UK.

Yes that's correct, In Spain you insure the car not the person. However most if not all insurance companies impose a minimum age for a driver to be covered, in our case it's 25

Thank you so much, we had no idea until a chance remark was made at a seminar I was attending.. It worth thinking about as car hire is so expensive.
