Social media and job applicants

Just been advised of a new trend by employers.

Once an interview has been completed and prior to any offer companies are now using social medias such as facebook & twitter as part of the assessment of a candidate – so I guess if looking for jobs and if you use social media be careful what you post

Oh dear...I would be sacked before I was even interviewed or employed!

Having said that, luckily I'm not using social media to gain employment (and never would)...just campaigning and exposing corrupt hospitals, insurers, solicitors, MP's, Online predators, Fraudsters et al...and for that, it has been more than ideal.

Onwards and upwards eh  :)

 

Its not a matter of using social media to obtain a job but what one might have posted previously.

I was told of a guy this morning who boasted on line that he had been speeding (seriously over the limit) but had persuaded the woman police officer to show a much lower speed when she reported him.  He was even so stupid as to post a copy of the paperwork showing his name and address, and then was surprise when it backfired.

companies have been doing this for a while and not just if your looking for a job, some are looking at what is said about them or what their employee is up to ie parties, drugs, holidays, on line pictures etc etc

I think the idea is that when at an interview candidates are often on their best behaviour and before a final offer is made a look on facebook etc can give an employer an alternative view on their character based on their postings

What you post could be the difference between getting the job or not
