Confused.com devious, or just plain ignorant?

It is not for your average expat to report people.
Camposol - why not?
I guess it comes down to individual choice. What would you report someone doing wrong - murder, drug pushers, assualt, rape, vandalism, tax evasion, drink driving, noise, fraud, theft, child abuse, etc?

It's one thing knowing someone is dodging taxes, but just a name and address is useless, you must have proof, otherwise you could be done for slander.
Can you imagine the HMRC letting people get away with what they do out here ?
The hacienda should do their job, not expect people to put their head above the parapet!

Slander.....what a ridiculous comment.
For starters the person being investigated will be told it is a random check which is something that does happen.
And how do I know all of this...because we were innocent victims of such an event. I say innocent..but in truth is ANYONE totally innocent...because after 3 long stressful years..we were found to owe the IR £47.( forty seven UK pounds)
It was only because the taxman mentioned legal purchases bought after the tax years under investigation we knew.someone had tried to stitch us up.
Wonder if IR still offers a tax free payment of £50 or a tax free percentage of what is claimed back. We always hoped the nasty person who did it to us went for the latter.

You seem to be a knowladgeable person, so maybe you can answer the question which has always given me pause for thought. Who is it that calculates the loss (of say €253billion) to the economy, and how is it done? This sort of eye watering figure appears in virtually all countries, but I am very sceptical!
