I am contemplating a one way self drive hire van from UK to Spain with personal possessions and furniture. On a previous post someone mentioned getting taxed on their possessions and furniture, I did PM them to ask but have had no response.

so my query is, has anyone done the above and had any problems ? Did you have to pay any import duties, if so how much ?

all my furniture I have owned for a few years, nothing shiny and brand new.

All I can say is we didn't ! we bought over an insured value of £4500 worth of furniture - we used a professional company (Mathew James) and this was a specific question that I put to them.

If you are still concerned maybe you can  ring up ask one of these professional companies on the pretext of getting a quote

I've kitted out 2 properties over the years, and sent over loads of stuff on vans, never paid any sort of taxes

Moving involves a lot of things to be taken care off. Though for longer moves, especially moves involving the entire family and all stuffs, a full-fledged mover might be the right choice.

I understand moving anything between EU countries, UK to Spain for example,  there are no customs taxes.

The EU is a customs free area.

It is only when goods come from outside the EU one would have taxes to pay.  For example: say from Gibraltar to Spain, UK etc.

Or am I wrong ?
