Monarch - Air Operators Licence runs out on Friday
The Comments |
Monarch's AOL (Air Operators Licence) runs out on Friday and as of this morning has yet to be renewed. The newspapers report a rumour that the CAA has reserved charter aircraft to get people home.
Keenly interested as we are to fly Luton/Alicante on Sunday morning.
Monarch's web site says that they have no financial problems (but does not say they have no problems at all).
Would be good if anyone has any better (or inside) information.

It seems that the CAA has given Monarch a 12 day stay of execution.
Most comment seems to believe that the problem is financial. This backed up by Monarch's statement about new finance.
So I fly tomorrow, but do not know if I have a flight back!

According to the papers this is only for package and charter holiday flights. Normal flights should not be affected and they are covered by EU rules not ATOL.
Looks like your flight only should be safe.

True but I do not see Monarch continuing to trade without it.
Monarch is a bit complicated as the flights are provided by a sub company (can't remember name). I suppose it is possible that the sub company could continue to run the flights but there would be a lot of empty seats without the holiday package passengers.

No flights have been cancelled and bookings still being taken for schedule flights and package holidays
So no need to worry at this stage it is only rumours
