Don't want you to think that I am a know it all but why trust a developer to find you your perfect property? I don't know how you approached buying in the UK but I bet you did a lot of reseach and leg work. We have not yet bought but have done the following:
1) Found our favoured part of Spain
2) Found our favoured area
3) Found the actual development that we are comfortable with
4) Researched the actual development very thoroughly
5) Walk around every aspect of the development and select our favoured position
6) Viewed a selection of properties in our favoured position
7) Got prices from the developer and then hit the keyboards to find that several off plan buyers are now 'distressed' sellers
8) Made a lower offer on a 'distressed' sale just prior to the pound completely collapsing against the euro
9) Pulled out for a little breathing space and did a bit more in depth research
10) Found out that certain facilities such as the indoor pool and gym are unlikely to be completed by the developer because he has nine completed apartments that he can't sell as he wants last years prices for them.
11) We are now looking for a repossession at a price that would allow us to make the inevitable contribution towards completion of the facilities
Right or wrong we are up to speed with everything that is going on (we think), we can actually see a nearly completed complex, neither of us have got the stomach for an off plan purchase fiasco, I will update you on our progress, if we make any.
