Sim de-activation

I have had a movistar PAYG sim card that I have not used for a few months.
I have the need for it again now but cannot receive or make calls?
Does anybody know if the sim card gets zapped if it unused for a certain amount of time?

I think it's after 6 months. Pop into a movistar agent to ask for help, or maybe try on-line www.movistar.es
