Hi,Can  anyone help, I sold my car to a mechanic at a garage,  last April, I have since purchased another vehicle, I paid the tax on this vehicle last week ,today  I have noticed that the tax for my old  vehicle has gone out of my bank account ,can anyone tell me why. .trying to contact mechanic not heard from him, also never received any paperwork from him.can anyone help me.

If the Car was sold before 1st June of any yearl,the original owner has to pay the Road Tax. Maybe the Mechanic you sold the Car to, has not registered it ,in his own name yet. See websites below which may help you in this matter. You may have to use s3.translator to tranlate one of the webpages.

Whoever owns the car on 1st Jan each year is liable for the road tax for the year. If you sold it April just gone then you would be liable for it.

Did you make sure that the transfer of ownership was done? 

I believe the circulation tax must have been paid for the transfer process to be completed    If the car is not registered to the new owner then you will  be responsible for all fines incurred 

There is a web page where one can check who the registered owner is and if there are any fines , etc recorded against the vehicle

PPS you can also check if a vehicle has been the subject of any insurance claim
