Fair enough John, you and the rest of the police force can only probably do their best. If your granny gets scammed for £1,000s by Kieran Tarmacadam its probably county court. Not probably a deterrent.

Perhaps grannies should never be allowed to have any money; they only probably incentivise innocent people to become legal thieves.

Perhaps if the scam brigade went round to the magistrates and judges houses more often we might see a change in attitude and law enforcement.

Hopefully the police do what the law permits.

If a situation has the ingredients which constitutes a crime then they act, if none exist then there is no crime.

Matter's not how many times you tell, or explain to any house buyer, UK or Spain, do not give a deposit over to any Estate agent,  say this until blue in the face, still people will do it, because the friendly estate agent, and they are your friend, because they want you to buy from them, could, and can, talk many into doing it this way.

Give your deposit to your solicitor and tell the solicitor to inform the estate agent, 'Deposit received' simple as that.

We still hear of people that have handed over fair amounts of money, usually over the internet, to gain access to  'You have just wont the Canadian lottery,'  many of these people are not dope's, even though they know full well they never entered this lottery, so if some still do this, what chance do others have face to face with a dodgy estate agent.

Not at all saying all Estate Agents are this way.

Quite right baz

'You have just won the Canadian lottery without buying a ticket,'

Yes many are not dopes (the won't be tolds) but greed gets the better of them. Spivs and scammers live of people’s appetite for greed and insatiability. The whole purpose of laws and regulations are to try and stamp out spivs and scammers, and protect the not dopes (won't be tolds) from themselves.
