Sky decoders will work in any country where they can receive a signal from the satellites used by sky (ie Astra 28.5).
Subsidised boxes are used when you get an installation done by sky in the UK - heavily discounted to get you onto their pay channels. Non subsidised boxes are those which are bought by not getting a sky subscription or installation that has been discounted by Sky.
There are no differences between the two and should work equally well. There should be no problems with activating or using cards in either model.
