Hi all, as you know we are now moving next Summer and have our first trip arranged this month to Costa Blanca and areas. Everything is happening quite fast after years of "thinking about it"! Have had an offer accepted for a flat for eldest Son too which lets him stay here and Hubby has a base for when he is working here.
My head is buzzing with all that is going on and constantly thinking about how life in Spain will compare to here etc. I have nobody else to talk to about it but here and would love for anybody to gee me up and tell me how much my life will be improved etc. by making the move. Because I have nobody to talk to about it (well Hubby, but he likes me to pass info to him from the forums) I find myself feeling nervous and questioning it all and wondering sometimes what we are doing. There is no question about us changing our minds...please cheer me up with good stories!
It is wet and windy and miserable here today just to start things off! Even Troy looks depressed.
Love from Margaretxx

Well, if its any good for you, yesterday we went for a stroll on the paseo (prominade) in Marbella. Ihad on keans and various layers which I peeled off until I had a strappy vest top on. Other half had shorts and t shirt on (hardier than me!) and sandals. We took the dog onto the beach and played there for a while, then carried on to a restaurant where we had probably the best sunday roast dinner ever (cept mine of course!).
Then sat there watching the blue sea, the palm trees, the white gold sand and kids playuing in it.
After a good 2 hours, we wandered back, via a coffee stop and came home.
Pretty much what I came here for 13 years ago with absolutely no regrets and have never looked back.
And both my kids love it here too and do not like the UK in the slightest, wondering why people choose to stay there!

thanks Rixxy that's how I like to think of it! I suppose I am just feeling a bit over-whelmed by it all and the thought of all the organising that is going to have to be done for us all that's freaking me out a bit. Can't get my head round it all at times!

We bought our place 5 years ago, never thinking of moving here. We came every school holiday we could. It got harder and harder to leave.
We made the move last summer and have never been happier.
Sure there is a lot to sort out before you move.
We had a business to sell. Kids (19 and 21 years old) to 'throw out of the house' a 7 year old to get into school here. A house to 'tart up' for rental. (didn't have to sell it, thank God) Things to store/move. The list goes on.
We made the right move and you are too.
Good luck.

Hola Troy!
You can't beat lounging in the sun on the terrace (mid-November) while the humans are out walking along the beach. I've only ever lived here, so don't really know what it's like to have to curl up by a radiator to try to keep warm, but it doesn't sound like much of a life for a cat to me.
Un Salud,
Miro el Gato.

Hi Troythecat,
I have just returned home ( to Spain ) after six freezing days in the UK and if I ever needed a reminder as to why I moved to Spain..........that was it!!
No one smiles, no one chats and no one looks happy.......................with very few exceptions!!
Here I can stop for a coffee and within minutes engage in conversation. I can smile at someone and not be regarded as a middle aged lunatic ( even tho I am!!) And normally, I am warm and dry ( tho not today as it's hissed it down all day!!)
Try not to worry.........................I've stopped the 'worrying' thingy........................just wait till 'it' happens...............then panic!!

How's the garage, Karen? I don't dare go down to check ours - but nobody's knocking on my door, so maybe......
Anyway, at least we won't be scraping the ice off the windscreen in the morning

The garage is not too bad at the moment, thankyou Roberto!!
We have bunged up the air grilles which were situated at pavement level ( just right for the rain to flow through ) and stuck mastic stuff on every thing that looked vunerable and as long as no idiot swishes round the corner through the dirty great build up of water we get when it rains, all should be ok.
Not a very technical description, I know....................but I am a woman!!
Still p****s me off that our original builder just left it all though, but I'm a big believer in what goes aroung comes around.............so.........................

Hi Troythecat,
I absolutely empathise...we are moving out next august...we have nearly secured a rental as we want to get into a certain school and as we are going to be backwards and forewards over the next months we have taken it from Feb 08...only way to guarantee a place in the school we want and to get the rental we want. We are at contract on our house with dep March 08 into a rental whilst our kids complete their last year in school....this also gives me time to sort stuff out
We are just starting our "Chuck it out" phase...very helpful and healing process (for me anyway sinec I didn't buy most of the stuff :-)
Its going to be a long hard road but I know we are making the right decision every time I go out my front door freezing my wotsits off. This AM off with my son to watch him play football and its windy...damp and cold....
Roll on August 2008!!!!

HI Pknott.
You seem to have things quite well organised though We are going to tackle the school issue once we decide where we are staying. Hoping to have that mattered settled when we go out next Friday for a 4 day trip We are helping our eldest buy to buy his 1st flat at the moment with the date of entry middle January then putting ours on the market end Feb. Just thinking this morning from middle January onwards next year it is going to be quite stressful! Just to cheer us up, a house identical to our own has just been reduced by 10 grand after a couple months on the market! Yet in the last 3 years since moving into this new house every house sold within 4 weeks of going up for sale!
I too have started clearing out, or rather de-cluttering. Regular trips to Costco for empty boxes and starting to box things up....stickers on each box....the def. going box.....the maybe box.....the boot sale box.....and the put in Sons flat box! Just away to start on the bookcase! Never too early to start!
I know what you mean about the weather too. My son loves football and trains twice weekly with the local SPL team. He's not old enough to join their team yet but that would come and I don't relish standing at a pitch side in the freezing cold either. it;s really bitter cold today and windy, what a combination! I am hoping he can carry on his football in Spain as he does seem to be talented (ok I am biased).
Like you say, a long road in front of us and I hope I don't end up with a nervous breakdown along the way
Karensun I agree nobody seems happy do they? When I started this thread I was having a bit of a wobbly phase, but am so much more positive now and focused on what we are doing. So many people are leaving the UK, there are 2 from sons class alone emigrating to Australia soon and my neighbour did in April. I got my letter from Government this morning telling me all my personal data and my sons has been lost and they were apologising! pah! They have even said they won't name the member of staff responsible as they have to respect his privacy! This country is going MAD
Now I'm rattling on a bit....Margaretx
