Valencian land grab
The Comments |
At last someone in the European Union may be doing something about the land grab laws of the Valencian government.
Acording to local Alicante newspaper "Informacion" yesterday an Austrian MEP is taking up the case of an Austrian couple who own a property in Orihuela Costa in particular and several others in general.
Herbert Bosch a member of the European parliaments budgetary control committee is especially interested in the case of the Wesenaur family who were asked to pay 44.000 euros towards the costs of the infrastructure for a new development and at the same time lose half of their plot.
Apparently a letter was sent by the Austrian Embassy to Orihuela Town Hall in November 2007 stating that "the legal rights as property owners of all citizens of all European countries should be respected"
The reply from the mayor is priceless , HE MAINTAINED THAT THE REGIONAL LAW HAD BEEN MET AND THAT THE WESENAUERS WERE TRYING TO ¨AVOID¨THEIR URBANISATION COSTS AND EXPROPRIATION.
These mayors live in another planet The brother of a local councillor is the developer of the urbanisation and the company responsible for its infrastructure is under investigation by the anti corruption prosecutor. The sewerage infrastructure is being financed by Europe.
Pity some British MEP´S do not follow Herr Bosch´s example.
