Hi lorelei, endless help in mobile threads in here, click blue link >>>  Utilities in Spain

Ring 0044 before the number. (It presumably is a UK mobile number in a UK mobile & NOT a Spanish SIM in a UK mobile, in which case it needs to be 0034)

It doesn't matter where in the world the UK mobile is you have to ring the UK code if the UK number is being used.

Hope that all makes sense to you.

I actually said if you need to ring a UK MOBILE in Spain ring 0044 first BUT if it's got a SPANISH SIM CARD FITTED it's 0034 !! Does it have a Spanish SIM card in it ? For example does the number you're dialling begin 616 as ours does ??
No particular mobile, no. Charges between different mobile providers will differ though.

You can also ring from a landline. Perhaps you should consider this way to ease the cost.

Go to http://www.dialwise.co.uk/index2.php & see their cheap rates. If you look at ringing a UK mobile from a UK landline it costs you 10p/min if you ring the access code first.

If you ring a UK mobile with a UK mobile (from Spain) you need to dial 0044.

If you ring a UK mobile from a UK Mobile but the recipient is in Spain & you are in the UK, you just dial the normal number without the International code.

If you ring a UK mobile (whether in the UK or Spain) with a Spanish Mobile you need to dial 0044.

If you ring a Spanish mobile with a UK phone you need to dial 0034 regardless of  whether you are in Spain or the UK

I am sure there are other permutations but I think these cover what you are asking.

Noreen

God, Noreen, you're confusing poor More now.

So I'm wrong, am I ? Lost the plot here.

More

You know I would never "diss" you  .

But if you think about it -

1) You are in the UK.

2) The person you want to phone is normally in the UK & has a UK mobile.

3) The person you want to phone is temporarily out of the UK but you don't know that.

4) You wouldn't dial 0044 but you would still get through.

5) Therefore, if you know the person is in Spain, you still don't have to dial 0044.

I need a lie down because I am confusing myself now.

Noreen

Just to say that some mobiles don't recognise the 0044/ 0034, you may need to put in +44/ +34 instead.

Also, if you are calling (example) from a UK Orange phone in the UK to a UK 02 phone in Spain, you would just need to dial the number as usual (probably from your phonebook), the call will automatically be put through to the phone in Spain. If however, your friend wanted to phone you in the UK, he/ she would have to use the international dialling code.

There you go, clear as mud .

Just dial the number or use your phone book if you have the number stored.

Be aware that as the recipient is in Spain they will be paying to roaming charge to receive the call.

the roaming charge is a standard rate right? It's not charged per minute?

I'm with 02 and I think that's £1 or 1.50 a minute.  I had a very healthy credit on my phone until my LandLine went out for a couple of days.  My OH kept phoneing me to find out how I was getting on with Telefonica and wiped it out in the 3 days it took to be reconnected  I'm not on contract but payasugo so it may be higher than most.

Best look at Virgin Website to see how much the calls will cost the user who is in Spain.

A landline is the same as a payphone ????????????????

From the Dialwise website............

"Can I use Dial Wise from payphones?

Our access numbers are accessible from any UK phone, including payphones

However, be aware that calls from payphones could be surcharged and may cost more than the price stated on this website."

Is there any chance you could use Skype, free using pc to pc ?

does the person in spain pay a roaming charge if i phone them from a landline?

The Nokia 3410 [i know its old] is ok to use in spain right?
because my friend has that phone and said she could text her daughter using it.

But does the person in Spain have to have a more up to date phone?

If the mobile phone is in Spain and you ring it, your side of paying for the call terminates at the UK coastline (well maybe a few miles out to sea anyway). The person receiving the call will also pay a per minute charge (the roaming fee) for using the host operator's network. If you text them, they will also pay to receive texts, between 20- 40p per text..

I don't see why a 3410 shouldn't work.
