Madrid regional government moves against airlines charging for luggage
The Madrid Council for Tax and the Economy has issued informative fines against several air companies which fly to the capital and charge travellers more for checking in luggage.
Under Spanish law the Madrid regional government claims that luggage costs are considered to be included as part of the overall ticket, and complaints from consumers over being charged for luggage have increased over recent months.
Carmen Martínez de Sola from the Madrid Consumers Office explained that the regional government had written to the Ministry for Development on the matter, as they are responsible for civil aviation. She said the practice of charging for luggage was extending from one company to another and she considered that consumers were being tricked.
