You are welcome KC60!

Any luck with your request yet?

I did know of a company that was around when we moved in.

They were called GB Grilles, run by an English man & Wife.

They did quote for us and were very competitive. They had done some installations within our apartment block.

But, we got a better deal from Parador. (We didn't buy via them)

They were a lot cheaper and the man to ask for is called Paco.

All info is from Nov 2003/Spring 2004, so not sure if it will help.

Rgds

Hi Misty, in Formentera itself their is an ironmongers we needed a grille for the door and friends enquired for us, he followed them back measured up and the job was done  the following week, he was the cheapest quote we had about 200euros but they were Spanish and we had to try and communicate with them but we managed. The shop is as you come out of your complex turn left and keep walking down the main road and its on the opposite side. But someone will be able to tell you, I do not know the name as we were not their when it was done. But they did a good job, hope this helps Pat.

Just returned from Spain tonight (6pmish).

On our first day we stayed at Villa Martin in a new apartment which we were renting.  We were there about an hour when a neighbour knocked on the door and asked if we had heard anything, we had not.

Thieves had drove along side the back of the building, attached a chain to the window grilles and ripped it off.  Then used the grille as a ladder to climb into and screw an apartment.

Imagine how we felt, there for an hour and that already.  the builders turned up later in the week and started to finish the fence which would have prevented this from happening.

The same neighbours wife had also been mugged on a previous occasion.

We completed on the 29th and Dream Hills2.  1 car broken into (he had left his golf clubs in the car) and 2 x opportunist thefts.

Most crimes are opportunists, be vigilent and stop it happening.  I wouldn't leave my front door open in the UK and disappear neither would I leave valuable in the car on display.

Hi Dave & Sheila

Of course it depends on the size, the design, whether you want them maintenance free ( having said that our supposed "maintenance free" grilles were rusting inside 6 weeks !!!!) or just painted.

I have 4 very large dogs, they just moved in without asking. Each one eats approximatley €1.50´s worth of food everyday. If you pm me I shall be happy to bring one over. No need for grills or alarms or house insurance for that matter, they never let anyone near my house including me!!!

As Georgia says you should get grilles fitted by the builder to the ground floor as standard these days. This is the email address of some highly recommended people in Los Montesinos, as I mentioned before. Omac Security Grills SL

The alarm you are talking about is called RejaGard. It is the only one of it's type on the market and can be found at

The length of alarm sound is determined to some extent by the state of the battery. What people like about it is that it detects intruders BEFORE they get in rather than AFTER they ARE in like conventional alarms.
