Legality of an E-Scooter in Spain
The Comments |
Hi everyone,
I want to buy an electric scooter (see attached picture) in spain an I need
some legal info about it:
1. Is it legal in Spain ? What is the max legal engine limit (in watts) ?
2. Do I need to wear safety accessories (as helmet, etc...) ?
3. Is it possible to go with this e-scooter everywhere or just on roads/sidewalks ?
4. What does this e-scooter “must have” in order to be legal in spain ?
I know it's not easy to answer these questions, but I have an option to buy a very nice one
and I can't find any legal info about it (My spanish is not that good ).
Kind Regards,
Josefin.

These electric scooters are not considered as vehicles in Spain. It can only be used in pedestrian areas, streets and bikeways, not for roads. There is still a legal limbo regarding this scooters. There is no National regulation about them as there is in France or Holland. It seems that Spain wants to bring a non-restricted regulation for these. Not in place yet.
Municipalities ( Local Councils) do have local regulations on this. You will have to check in the area you will be using it.

mariadecastro,
Thank you very much for the information and the quick answer. It's very helpful.
As much as I can understand from what you've said - at the moment there are no
regulations at all regarding these kind of vehicles.
Are there any rules about the E-Scooters except those you mention ?
I try to find info at the gov web site but I found nothing.
Is it possible for you to post me a link for the specific rules at the authority web site ?
Kind Regards,
Josefin.

Whilst I haven't seen any of these machines in the two-stroke city of Granada, I do seem to recall seeing a lot of them, electric and two stroke, being used as personal transport and as fun machines along the main pedestrian walkways along the front in Palma, Majorca and being totally ignored by the policia...
