We are currently trying to purchase a property on ACC but would like to live in the Mojacar area of Almeria.    I am in my second year of learning Spanish at college but would love to come over in the new year now that my daughters have left home.  I have spoken to agencies and employers in Spain who have said they would employ me on the spot if I was resident in Spain.   Obviously, I dont want to go to Spain without a job, so its a chicken and egg situation.  Is there much administrative work in the area? I suppose what I am looking for is a position being advertised, I apply, visit Spain for interview, accept the job, come home and pack, go to Spain, find somewhere to live and then start work.  Is this possible?

If anyone has any advice or information or even better a job, please let me know.

Hi Karen be careful about what you are told. Particularly in the Real Estate sector. That can be a particularly cutthroat market - there have been a lot of the churn and burn companies that have treated employees pretty shoddily. Not paid on time - poor working conditions etc. Dont know what you anticipate earning and dont know income levels in Mojacar but Andalucia (C del Sol) is the poorest region in Spain - regional average salary is just under 9000€ per annum gross (about £6000). At the same time it probably has the highest concentration of wealth in Spain on the coast itself - someone told me that 80% of the 500 Euro notes in circulation in Spain are on the CDS. Hard to say whether you should be the chicken or the egg but depends on what your circumstances are back in the UK. If you have nothing to lose then jump on a plane with enough clothes and belongings to last a month and come down and see what you can find - decide what level of income you need to live. Rent food car etc Then see if you can find a job that pays what you need. Spanish employers will be reluctant unless your Spanish is near as can be fluent. Sales positions will invariably relate to commission. Tax is complex here and if you are legal, social security is compulsory and approx 250€ a month minimum.

My partner and I will be moving over to Murcia early next year , he is a  qualified Electrician and also recently completed a course on brick laying and I'm a decorator , would really apreciate any help or advice on companies who employ or small businesses who are looking to employ , Spanish is limited but we are attending classes .
