Free book on Community Finances
The Comments |
I spotted an article in last week's Sur offering readers a free copy of a book titled Financial Control in Owner's Communities in Spain, so ordered one, which arrived today. I've not read it all yet, but glancing through it, it seems to be very well written and easy for the layman to understand, and offers excellent info on all aspects of community finances. It's in Spanish and English, which makes it a very handy tool for non-Spanish speakers to use to get a point over to their Spanish co-owners (!!) and even includes my favourite bed time reading, the Horizontal Property Act!
Since I have no association with the company offering it, this is just a personal recomendation, I don't think there should be any objection to me posting a link here? Click where it says to order your free book, and fill in your details and address on the form.

Hi All,
I have also ordered the book and received it today.
I'm about to become President of my community (in Estepona) and agree with Roberto on the fact that the book is complete and easy to understand. I will probably change our administrator as we get little clarity on what is being done with our money. I'm not saying that it's being "mis-used", but if I am to take such responsibilities (and liabilities) I want to make sure figures are correct and “control processes” are in place. I am therefore thinking of having the accounts audited by external parties. Has anyone got any advice on this? Is it wise doing so? Is it expensive? Are there other companies than the one offering the book who offer such auditing services on the Costa del Sol? Any advice or recommendation?
Thanks in advance,
Susan

Welcome to EOS!
You haven't put in your profile exactly where you're based, but I'm sure there will be several asesorias in your area to choose from. Likewise, administrators. I can't recommend any in particular, but since (speaking form personal experience) presidential duties can be very time consuming, I would recommend that you try to find ones as near to you as possible, so that you can easily and quickly visit their offices - or better still, have them come to you! try asking around neighbouring communities for recommendations.
Good luck. You'll need it
Edited to say: it has just been politely pointed out to me by another member, that you actually made it quite clear in your post that you're in Estepona. Sorry! This message was last edited by Roberto on 27/06/2009.
