Hi all

We're planning a week in Granada to see the sights and don't know which part of the city would be best to stay. If any of you have done the trip and can offer some advice, we would greatly appreciate it. We're hoping to go the first week in October.

Irene / Alan hi;

Let me direct you to this site as a fountain of knowledge for all things to see / do in Granada and also a list of places to stay.

There are several mainstream hotels within Central Granada and also along the main A44 which serves as a bypass for the city.

We live about 40Kms Southwest of Granada and when we first came here we stayed at the Hotel Capitulaciones in Sante Fe. This is not a recommdation however as each trip into Granada would involve either a bus trip or driving into Granada and parking up for the day. We used it simply because it was central to our area of research for property and convenient for the airport..

You should be advised that much of Granada is at the moment subject to extensive roadworks along some of the main thoroughfares as work proceeds to introduce a cross city Tramway system (like Sheffield or Allicante...).

Driving in Granada is difficult at the best of times; some of the central area is off-limits to non essential traffic, far better to use the local bus services.at a fixed price of 1.20 Euros per trip.

Hope you have a good time; if the weathers good you should enjoy the city. If the weather is not so good...think Sheffield....!

Irene,

We have just returned from a trip to Granada from our place in Costa Blanca. Well worth a visit.

If you intend to visit Alhambra, I would recommend the Hotel Alixares which is directly opposite the Alhambra and the stand for the local buses which take you into the city centre. It is a nice hote and has a website so you can see check out what  it is like.

We booked through Trip Advisor and got a good deal for B&B for a couple of nights. We also pre-booked our Alhambra tickets online.

Like Foxbat says, you would be advised to drop your car at the hotel and use the local buses to get around. There is also a hop on / hop off open top bus which does the rounds of the touristy bits with commentary. The tickets cost us 18 e each for a 48 hour ticket which isn't cheap. If we go back, I think we would just use the little local buses which are much cheaper.

Hope this is of help. Enjoy your trip to Granada (I'm sure you will)

Tom & Frances

You do need a Sat Nav to navigate in Granada . We would never have found out hotel without one . Most of the streets are one way only and so narrow - it was a nightmare even with the Sat Nav ( getting out was just as bad ) . Saying that Granda is a lovely city . You have to see the Alhambra. .

We stayed in this small but very nice hotel.  It is very conveniently located in the centre.  When arriving I kept getting lost because of the one way streets.
