Ted

Thanks for your opinion.   As I said, free country, I voiced MY opinion, and again I stick to it.

.... and I see you are not prepared to tell us where you finally purchased (didn't think you would) and offer our opinions.  Guess it can't be that great after all. Hope you enjoy iy though, as much as many of us enjoy the Polaris developments.

I never mentioned I had bought anywhere, did I.  Only that if I did, and I have not yet,  it would not be on PW.

kim,

Yes you have upset a lot of poeple by your comments.  A lot of professional people have purchased on Polaris including PWs chief exec and this is their dream that you trashed in one thoughtless comment.  Don't know where you have got your comparisons from  but -------------------

Kim backwards is Mik and I think thats what you are taking.

P.S. Please read my avatar

You can spell it backwards if you like, but I'm not taking it (the Mik that is).  ONCE again My opinion.  I hope you will be all very happy with YOUR purchases, congrats.

Its strange you keep saying that you can voice your opinion etc, but you seem taken aback when we voice our opinion, when you start a thread titled as it is you must have expected a response, mainly from the thousands of misguided people who in your opinion have made a mistake on buying with PW. On another point which developer would you say has built projects and completed them to the same or better standards than PW.

So...now that we have a few people on this thread who know, and have obviously bought on, the PW site Murcia, can I ask if they got the water shortage problem solved?  I'm assuming they did or they wouldn't have built the site.  We looked at this site when it was first being marketed and really liked it...but were put off buying when we read (and spoke to local farmers) about the severe water shortages in the area and the fact that PW were only supposed to be building the site if they put in place water desalinisation plants, since golf courses use so much water and Murcia (being classified as a desert area) could look forward to severe water shortages to come with increased global warming.  I know we can look on the net for the information we are looking for but, in Spain, things don't always go according to plan!

Our understanding is that the plant will still go ahead- confirmation having been sought just under 8 weeks ago. Think you have to identify exactly what you want and PW suits so many people. We looked for over three years and stayed in many regions of Spain before deciding on a PW resort. Its absoloutely ideal , with resources to hand and potential for growth. We considered isolated finca's, town houses in Mijas, Medina Sidonia  and in Competa and they all had their plus points- but we felt once the novelty was over what would we have and what would our children do after the first visit. Loved the quietness of the fincas but we always needed a car to get into the villages and unless you live full time in the towns its very hard to integrate and be part of the community. So weighing it all up and the fact that this property is likely to be in our family for years and therefore has to offer the children something- we chose PW. Found no comparison with Blackpool whatsoever- though many people enjoy a weekend in Blackpool, or Benidorn, Lloret de Mar, Tossa De Mar or any other beach resort. The PW apartments are excellent value and are no longer an enclave for ex pats alone but very many are being bought by Spanish families who enjoy the facilities and security such a development can bring. As for being a short distance from the beach- that for us is a plus- its not been a place we spend any time at but at least our visitors can get there quickly of thats what they want.

kim6. why dont you buy a polaris property near the beachif you like the coast so much, they are building some at la manga next to the beach, you would have the best of both worlds then, beach& a polaris property at a good price.

Thanks very much for your reply, Jann.  We did much the same as you, looking at different parts of Spain and different styles of property/living.  We came to much the same conclusion as you.  We gave up the idea of a finca inland when petrol started to rise in price and we realised it wouldn't be the ideal place for family members that haven't learned to drive yet (and wouldn't want to drink and drive). We had thought we wanted to mix only with Spanish locals until we lived in a very Spanish village for a year and missed being able to speak English ocassionally....however much we love the Spanish.  So, living with Spanish-speaking neighbours AND English-speaking neighbours, away from the beach, near to some shops etc now seems the ideal scenario and somewhere that might prove to be a better rental opportunity to others (golf being the main attraction) can't be a bad thing when there are now so many rental properties on the market.

Marco,

And there we have it from a neutral. As I indicated in an earlier post, it does not take many words to expose a person's character.................. and you seem to have sussed it pretty quickly.

Regards,

The Polaris World beach apartments at La Manga are not the best choice for typical holiday homes. The IVA is 16% (not 7%) and there are restrictions where you need to make them available for rent for a certain portion of the year. They are more geared towards investment and tax deductible expenses, rental income including VAT/IVA and long term growth. Unfortunately you don't get frontline beach agreed by the regional government without restrictions.

hey guys

can we refrain from knocking blackpool yes its cold parts are filthy ,however being born and bred here parts are only filthy because  a percentage of tourist throw litter pee in the  streets and generally act like animals visit in winter its even colder the people are warm and there is no litter no trouble .

dont know when you guys were last here but major changes are happening here and it is being heavily invested in.every town has its downside but 16 million visitors per year tell me its not all bad

Hi Goose, my point about the resorts not being like Blackpool relate only to the fact they dont look like that Town and dont offer the same attractions at all. Kim6 seemed to be suggesting the exact opposite.  Its horses for courses surely and we dont all want the same thing. Given the fact there's apparently 1,700,000 key ready or part built properties in Spain yet to find a buyer its clear there's something for everyone without having to denigrate another persons choice.

Property developers had up priced so much in the boom years that for many' living in the sun' was only ever going to be a dream  and that Finca in the hills or renovated town house was way above the price people want to pay for a holiday home/potential retirement home. Our plan is to use our PW apartment as a base and visit the many attractions of Spain over the coming years- that way we get the best of both worlds.

PW had at least brought property into an achievable price band and as one agent said to us 'whether you buy the 90.000 euro apartment or the 1 million euro villa all the same facilities are available to you' and given that there are a a good percentage of full time Spanish residents on the PW resorts they cant be doing it all wrong.

Let's put this into perspective. 90,000 Euros for a place on a resort with Jack Nicklaus Signature course, town centre, 24 hour full security, swimming pool on the doorstep, squash, tennis, gym,... and that's in one of the healthiest climates in the world according to the World Health Organisation. I don't know anywhere else in Spain that offers anything close for that sort of price.

My thoughts exactly, cant understand why people want to be nasty about anothers choice.

Maybe in an ideal world we'd all be in million pound villas, maybe- or living full time in true Spanish style. We've travelled alot in Spain and in southern France and absoloutely love the climate, the culture and the people. In laws live permanently in Costa de Luz area. Our ideal was to be a town house in El Rompido (modern but fab with basement bedrooms, large front terrace and near the sea). But we missed the boat financially and after that our search became extensive. Its all very well for those able to afford a certain type of property to dismiss what other people can afford or choose to afford. I would agree that some resorts have become concrete jungles and developers have been greedy and greatly damaged some beautiful areas. But we havent seen that to be the case of Polaris resorts and they do exactly what they say on the box. You can buy a compact but well designed apartment or a large detached villa and have all those resources at your finger tips. They design them to be asthetically pleasing and you have the golf too. Its true they are not 'real' Spain but we have plenty of Spanish neighbours who could have bought elsewhere no doubt- and what is real Spain anyway these days? Unless you can spend the time to integrate your family properly few of us will ever experience living in a real Spanish village/town as the Spanish do- always visitors or ex pats. I commend anyone who has been able to take up that lifestyle but most of us are kidding ourselves if we think we can make a total transition.

There may be continued concerns about covering the great swathes of land with more building but one upside is the huge amount of money these purchasers bring into an area. Our resort is a hive of people setting up home with everything you might think of being purchased. These apartments do not come with any fixtures other than wardrobes so everything from the white goods onwards has to be purchased and then the residents sustained through food outlets and entertainment etc. Plus they bring employment  to the service suppliers in the area. I know there are lots of concerns about builders who have been brought into the country and now being out of work but thats the credit crunch issue and not individual developers. Whilst its true that our development should have had a couple of other areas built by now PW put the brakes on them and so we haven't got anything half built on the sky line and they are completing what they started so the resort looks completed (even though it isnt totally) But my belief is that PW will continue to build albeit slowly  so still have need for builders and building supplies.  Eventually our resort is supposed have a fire station, medical centre, maybe even a school for the whole local community too and some of the sports facilities are open to the general public - so I see lots of positives in this type of resort- in fact they are towns rather than resorts.

Hi' I have bought a property from Polaris on MM2 and it is absolutely amazing and only five minutes from the beach nothing like Blackpool as I used to live and work there for many years and know what it is like as someone said full of girls and guy's on hen / stag nights staggering about making a fool of themselves and quite rude behavior and tacky but it was always the tourists that were behaving badly when you live there you don't see much of your friends in the summer as they busy and we did not go to places where the tourist's went, all the years that I lived there I never went to the beach yet only one minute away, can't wait to move to Spain for good just a better way of life and meet with friends and have a nice time, quite beaches and no staggering idiots so there is no comparison to Spain, I live in Scotland at the moment nice but cold so Spain here I come.

Hi

Its really nice to see some positive posts about Spain. Reading other threads- lawyers this; recession that etc etc. Why are we buying in Spain? Answer BECAUSE WE WANT TO. At least we will not sit back in 20 years time thinking 'I wish I'd done that!' and if it goes t*** up, so what!

Good luck to you all

Phil

I find Kim's comments bizarre to say the least

The only thing PW  resorts have in common with Blackpool is that they all have a quality golf course within the facinity.

I personally own a property on condado and believe it to be a superb resort with huge potential.

I have done my fair share of weekends in Blackpool and have enjoyed my time there but where exactly are the strip joints/brothels in CDA or any other polaris world for that matter. Strange opinnion which she is very much entitled toO but also a very much incorrect one.

Anyhow I look forward to next trip to Blackpool where I'm lead to believe each street has their own swimming pool. CAN'T WAIT
