Hi Agrace

We moved over on 1st July from Scotland with our 2 boys, aged 12 and 14, and our dog.

Jedk is correct on the registration process for schools, you will need your padron and there is a mountain of paperwork to fill in once at the school.  You will also need photocopies of all your NIE's and passports, and lots of them, they love their paperwork here.

My boys are going to Almoradi to a Spanish State School and yes ok initially they were apprehensive and scared but 2 weeks in and they have a crowd of friends calling round to the house for them.  I enrolled them into the local football team (all Spanish boys) and I think that really helped them.  If you can do as Jedk says about the flash cards it will definitely give them a heads up when they come over, I used post it notes everywhere (even the loo!) and found that helpful.

The school books are quite expensive over here and you have to have a jotter for every subject.  Picking subjects can be quite hard also but we are under the impression that our 14 year old will probably have to repeat his year although his younger brother will probably not.

Check with your vet ASAP about getting a dog passport, some companies will not allow them to travel if they dont have at least 6 months on the passport.  We went over on the dover ferry and ours was fine.  We worried terrible about our puppy but she is getting on great (apart from the fireworks which are all the time during Fiesta season).

I wish you all the best and dont hesitate to ask as many questions as you want, Ive been there and done it and know how it feels.

Lorraine.

We moved over on the 1st July from Lossiemouth, Morayshire to Daya Nueva, which is about an hour north of Murcia.  The company we used (Movers International (Europe) Ltd)  were really good and very competitive, to the point of matching any other quotes we got.  They collected our furniture about 10 days before we left so they could deliver once we arrived, we drove down (3 days in a Corsa with 2 teenagers and a dog!!!)

If you would like more information just let me know and I will pm you the details.  My advice on furniture removals to Spain is take as much as you can, its quite expensive over here but  you will be quoted by cubic metreage.

Good luck.

Hi everyone

Just letting you know we have arrived safe and sound in Daya Nueva to start our new life in Spain.  We had no problems driving all the way from Lossiemouth to Spain apart from a slight hiccup bypassing Paris (thank god for the sat nav!!)

The car, dog and kids survived although extremely shattered and rather sweaty.

Abbeygate sent us all the documents we needed by email so we had them printed before we left for spain.

Keep you posted on how we are getting on, just chilling now with some wine and sunshine.

Hi Poppyseed

I know exactly what you mean, we have a corsa - 3 countries, 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a dog!!  Should be fun.

We were hoping to insure our car for 6 months so the 3 months that most insurers offer wasn't going to be enough.  As it is we have gone with Abbeygate who offered  European cover with unlimited time for 330 euros.  They spoke English and were very efficient.

And so the adventure begins, leaving Lossiemouth here at 5am Sunday and should arrive in Daya Nueva, Alicante around teatime on Tuesday 30th.  We wish your daughter well on her travels and hope we all have a safe and pain free journey.

Thank you Pat and Delza.

The more I read the more I learn.

I may try insuring the car through my sons address, certainly gonna look into that, my OH would rather that, less hassle.

Thanks again guys.
