Georgia in Algorfa - please clarify - is Tuesday 9 a holiday throughout Valencia province (I am in Jacarilla just down the road from you) or just Algorfa - I know Friday 12 is a national holiday - but is thursday 25 a national one too?

In our village bar last week I ordered un cafe con gas and agua con leche (fizzy coffee and water with milk) - the barman queried the order, treated it as a huge joke (as I did when I realised the error) but repeated it as he put the (correct) drinks on the table. I sense that he is not going to let me forget it!!

When I lived in Zambia in 1970 there were 2 Kwacha to the pound. Now there ara about 7500. And just look at Zimbabwe - when I visited there in 1998 the public phone boxes wouldn't accept coins because you couldn't get them in fast enough to pay for time on the call !!

Further to my earlier postings – there is a third option (rather than “fly and hire”, or “ferry and drive”). It could be very suitable for people visiting the Murcia area more frequently – and is “own a car in Spain”. Put autoairport.webs into Google and follow the link (probably the top item in the listing) to see the fantastic deal available for owners from a garage in Bigastro near Orihuela (ie well placed for Alicante, Murcia and Vorvera airports). Say goodbye for ever to taxi fares to/from airports and hire charges!

Chordiant - and others - the ferry by norfolklines (see my post of 10.32 yesterday) can be even cheaper than the train, and there is a depature every two hours. You book a time and can go on that one or (subject to space) the one before or the one after at the same fare. But I personally love the train for its speed and convenience, as you say. But at the end of the day, yes indeed yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice!
