Barcelona Nou Camp stadium redevelopment
Monday, August 3, 2009 @ 12:25 PM

I have just been reading that Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium is to be redeveloped. It’s the first I have heard about this, even though the news was announced nearly 2 years ago.

The renowned British Architect Norman Foster has been chosen as the architect for the extensive redevelopment and remodelling.  The Nou Camp stadium is already one of the largest in Europe but will be extended to a capacity of over 106,000 fans.  The stadium will have a new roof added and the exterior and roof will be enclosed by an outer layer of multi coloured mosaic translucent tiles. At night, the stadium will glow.

Personally, it all looks a bit over the top for me. I have been to the Nou Camp, and it is still a stunning stadium. I’m not sure such a radical overhaul is needed. The Barca fans seem to like it, so who am I to argue?

Here are some artists impressions of the redeveloped stadium, from the Fosters & Partners website.
