Frustrated Fabregas keeps Arsenal option open
Thursday, July 1, 2010 @ 3:23 PM

Barcelona transfer target Cesc Fabregas has hinted he may yet stay at Arsenal next season, admitting "everything is possible" and reiterating his love for the London club.

In what could be taken as further positive news for Gunners fans, Fabregas spoke out on his frustration at being left on Spain's bench behind preferred midfielders Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets - who all play for Barcelona. The World Cup experience could put doubts in Fabregas' mind about his preferred move to Barcelona, since he is the captain and key player of Arsenal.

"I haven't said that I will definitely leave Arsenal," Fabregas said, according to the Mirror. "Everything is possible. Now I have my head and my focus on the World Cup. I am very proud to be captain of Arsenal and I love the club and have respect for them. It gave me much pride to be made captain."

Of his World Cup campaign, in which he has played around an hour of football after coming off the bench in two of Spain's four matches to date, Fabregas said the role of benchwarmer did not come naturally to him and that his pride for representing his country was diminished by his peripheral role.

"I always want to play. I'm not used to sitting on the bench and I want to be playing at this World Cup. I've never been a player happy to settle for what I have, I always want more. I respect the coach's decision. I know to be in midfield is going to be difficult because we have a lot of good players but I will never give up. I've won a lot of caps but if I've not played three quarters of the game it's not so valuable to me."
